About Cheltenham Horse Racing Course
Horse Racing Tips UK IRELANDCheltenham is commonly known as The Home of National Hunt Racing. Cheltenham is to National Hunt what Lords is to Cricket, hosting 16 fixtures of superb quality each year. Cheltenham is renowned for the National Hunt Festival held in March, when crowds of 50,000 gather to watch the best horses and jockeys from Britain, Ireland and Europe compete in jumping's climax of the season. Besides the festival itself there are a number of other major race days including the Paddy Power November meeting, December and Pillar meetings. The main racecourse has two separate courses alongside each other, the Old Course and the New Course. The New Course has a tricky downhill fence and a longer run-in for steeplechases than the Old Course. Hurdle races over two miles on the New Course also have a slight peculiarity in that most of the hurdles are jumped early on in the race with only two hurdles being jumped in the last seven furlongs. There is also a cross-country course which is laid out inside the main racecourse and is used for cross-country steeplechases.
